What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy is born from the practice of traditional Osteopathy. The core belief providing the framework for this practice is the knowledge that the Health in each individual is never lost, despite the ailment or challenge. Health can be accessed by the individual at any time, however, all of us encounter moments when our body has difficulty organizing its self-healing process. This is when it is helpful to have a practitioner join with and augment the body’s natural state of self-correction.

The school of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, in particular, believes that this innate intelligence which resides in each of us is informed by universal rhythms, or “tides,” sensed within and without the body. Our growth and development as human beings at any age is also guided by the echoes of our watery beginnings as an embryo in the womb. Therefore, the term biodynamic refers to the notion that each individual is a dynamic body of various systems, organized by forces within our fluids, functioning as a whole. We are always in motions, we are always in process.

Please note that craniosacral therapy does not involve manipulation, nor does it attempt to replicate the work of a trained, traditional osteopath.

About Me

Briana Coffin, RCST, BCST, LMT

Welcome! My name is Briana Coffin (she/her) and I am a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist and Licensed Massage Therapist offering sessions from my office in Bath, Maine along the beautiful Kennebec River.  Born and raised in Maine, I am grateful to still call this inspiring landscape home. I live with my spouse and two children on Georgetown Island, comforted by the presence of the ocean and her many rhythms.

I graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 2006 with a B.A. in Anthropology.  I am a member of the Biodynamic Craniosacral Association of North America as well as Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals.  I received 700+ hours training as a craniosacral therapist through TurtleBack Craniosacral Education in upstate New York.  I have practiced bodywork for 10 years with a background in massage therapy, polarity therapy, and Reiki.  The care I provide is influenced by years of studying an array of material from both the scientific and spiritual realms, discovering again and again that these seemingly separate views are entangled and inseparable. Much of the embodiment work I encourage and practice is informed by my ongoing study in Qigong and Taoist philosophy.
